Fairies and Absinthe
We’ve all heard of Absinthe, known as the drink of the Green Fairy, and those who have watched Moulin Rouge see Ewan McGregor and his Bohemian friends tripping out and seeing the Green Fairy and other strange things. Absinthe gave ideas, inspiration and even their genius claimed by many artists and writers, such as Van Gogh, Pablo, Toulouse Lautrec,Ernest Hemingway, Picasso and Oscar Wilde. How and why?
Why does Absinthe make you see a sprite?
Well, actually it doesn’t. Absinthe is extra ordinarily strong liquor, which contains upto 70% alcohol by volume, almost double the strength of other spirits. If you prefer drinks like cider,beer and wine, making mind to drinking a high proof drink like Absinthe is going to have some effect on you but you won’t hallucinate you.
Absinthe was thought as an hallucinogen and that it drove people insane and even to their death in 19th century and early 20th century. Absinthe was a popular drink in France by the time called “The Great Binge”. Nobody was aware about their dangers at a time when cannabis, cocaine and heroin were used in beverages and children’s medicines. When these drugs were found to be harmful, Absinthe was assumed to be harmful too.
Absinthe has the chemical thujone the idea was that it contained large amounts of wormwood. Thujone was thought to be similar to THC in cannabis being a cause of psychedelic effects and to be psychoactive. Causing widespread alcohol abuse, violence and insanity and being an addictive the French medical profession and the prohibition movement pushed the French government to ban Absinthe. It was even claimed that Absinthe caused a Swiss man to murder his whole family. Absinthe was banned in 1912 in the United States and in 1915 in France.
Does Absinthe really make you hallucinate?
Absinthe was legalized in the EU in 1988 and in the US in 2007 but the thujone levels of Absinthe are regulated. Make a tour by visiting many discussion boards and forums online with articles and threads are available that talk about Absinthe. Teens and youth are wondering if they can get the same effects from Absinthe that they can from a smoke of pot and should they import stronger Absinthe from abroad or make their own Absinthe from a high thujone Absinthe making kit.
Absinthe does not contain enough thujone to make anyone trip or illusion it is the answers to these questions. Vintage pre ban Absinthe and even original Absinthe only contained minute amounts of thujone as the test results shows. You would die of alcohol poisoning It would be impossible to consume enough thujone from Absinthe to cause any effects,. Containing high amount of ethanol Absinthe has observed as a very strong drink which will, of course, make anyone drunk very quickly. Consume Absinthe in moderation a general advice. It is a drink to be enjoyed not to be consumed in the hope that it will give you a high or a buzz.

Absinthe with wormwood is hard to find….absinthe kits are easier to attain and easy to use…also, you can control the ratio of herbs to alcohol yourself
, which is great!! Once you’ve found the right ratio for yourself, try these recipes:
2 ounces tequila
4 ounces orange juice
1 ounce pomegranate simple syrup (aka grenadine)
2 to 3 drops absinthe
Round orange slice
Fill a glass with ice, pour in tequila and orange juice. Add pomegranate simple and then garnish with a couple drops of absinthe and an orange round.
Sugar Magnolia Negroni
1 ounce gin
1 ounce sweet vermouth
1 ounce Campari
2 to 3 drops absinthe
Stir, serve on the rocks in a lowball.
Serve these to your friends and make sure no one has to go anywhere or do anything for the evening

Well Cheap Pizza, the Impressionist painters drank a lot of absinthe, apparently and some art historians claim that that contributed to the dreamy quality that their paintings have. I don’t know if that’s true or not but absinthe with wormwood is supposed to make things look dreamy to some people. I suppose if you drink enough of any alcohol your vision is bound to be affected though.
